Back around 1992 we first went to Chain Lakes by accident. We had planned on staying at Chiquito Lake for two days, but upon finding it and the mosquitoes, we decided to hike up to Chain Lakes.
Because of our side trip to Chiquito Lake and some route finding troubles we never made it to Chain Lakes that night. Instead we camped at the trail junction at Chain Lakes Creek, one mile from Lower Chain Lake. We got up the next morning, hiked the rest of the way to Lower Chain Lake, where we spent the night and returned the next day.
A year later we decided to go back there again so we loaded up our backpacks with our way too heavy gear for yet another try at this backpacking thing.
