The Sawtooth Mountain Range is located on the north eastern border of Yosemite and the Hoover Wilderness. Matterhorn Peak is probably the most well known peak in the range standing at an elevation of 12,279'. What follows is an account of an attempt to backpack the area and summit Matterhorn Peak.
