Little Yosemite Valley
On April 15, 2000 me and my father-in-law Jim decided we needed to try out my new MSR Wisperlite Internationale™ stove and decide to visit Little Yosemite Valley since we had never been there before. We begin hiking the John Muir Trail (JMT) from the trail head at Happy Isles. This time of year, part of the JMT and mist trail are closed due to snow and ice.
On our way up the JMT we pause for a view of Upper Yosemite Falls.

Snow is still on the trail as we get closer to Little Yosemite Valley. Only a half mile or so to go.
We finally arrive in Little Yosemite Valley. This is the first two-story outhouse that I have ever seen!
Finally set up our campsite. This time of year we pretty much had the place to ourselves. There were probably only a dozen people staying here this weekend.
Jim has got the right idea. Come to think of it, I think we both "kicked back" for a while before we did anything!
Time to get that new stove out and start dinner. I think I made chicken soup. It was a lot better than it sounds, of course when your hungry you'll eat ALMOST anything. There is a story to that, but that's for another time!
Adding the chicken to the chicken soup. Time for a much deserved dinner!
In the summertime a ranger is stationed at Little Yosemite Valley. In the winter, this is what it looks like.
This is the bear box used to store ANYTHING that smells like food! Luckily we didn't have any bears visit us on this trip. We were not so fortunate on another outing here on our way to Half Dome!
This is the Merced River from somewhere around Little Yosemite Valley.
No this is not our ride home! This is a Search and Rescue helicopter that was used to locate a lost hiker. To my knowledge he was not found.
We made it back in one piece ready for another hike! Yes, the stove worked great! Until next time…
